Smart Cars – The Future of Road Safety

If you’ve seen the movie depicting the car that basically drive themselves, real life can imitate art faster than you think. Cars become more savvy in assessing risk, improving our ability to react and protect the passengers when the accident as possible. As engineers create new ways to protect us by accident, road and even avoid injury is to be front and center in the design of a new car.

Human error and our inability to react to the coming crash is a major factor in accidents caused 40,000 deaths plus cars every year. Automobile manufacturers to design the system board to improve our response time, enhance our ability to see potential hazards and intervene when the vehicle is put into situations that increase the percentage of accidents.

One example of a new concept; Designing a system designed to warn the driver if a pedestrian crossing the road are in danger of being hit. Other application systems can apply the brakes when the computer sensed that the car is to run a red light. This “Safety Smart Sensing Technologies”, provides information directly to the vehicle computer and allows the overall system to respond before the driver could react.

If an accident is imminent, some car companies will go into “Survival Mode Occupants”. TM Mercedes for example has a design of a new technology called “Pre-Safe” involved in the preparation of an accident is felt. All the windows will soon be shut down, seat belts will tighten and will soon adjust front seats for maximum airbag protection.

Other safety concept called “The views Detection” is designed to automatically read facial expressions and eye movements via a camera on board. If the system detects objects in the path of the vehicle at the same time your eyes are looking elsewhere, triggering a warning signal to draw your attention to the object to be avoided.

If you’re one of millions of parents who have problems with night driving, you know how difficult it can be to identify and avoid potential threats to the road, whether it be road debris or animal standing in the driveway. To overcome this several car makers install an infrared sensor to detect objects a few hundred yards ahead. This information will be transmitted to a dashboard monitor allows a better view of the road ahead, thereby giving the driver extra visibility and reaction time if needed. The device alone could save many people from accidents involving deer or other animals across the country.

The car also will be able to send information to the other car through a new Intelligent Transport System, which allows information about the possibility of dangerous road conditions or traffic accidents that may occur.
